 By late spring of 2003, Dad was ready to move on and do something else – he had a plan. He sold the other Exxons and offered me the opportunity to take over Campus Exxon and run it.

He was tired, burned out and starting a new adventure. From 1979 to 2003, he was all in on the Exxons, but he had recently started Seminary school and eventually earned his bachelors, masters and PhD.

From July 2003 to December 2010, I ran the Campus Exxon until we closed it down. The building was built in the 1960s. It was run down and needed a lot of work. Stop In wanted property downtown and knew that building in town would be difficult. So dad sold them the business and leased the land to them.

By now, I hope that our beautiful building on North Main Street in Blacksburg is a familiar landmark. It wasn’t too long ago that the site was full of old run down buildings, and we were operating a former Blacksburg landmark, Campus Exxon.
